davis - 11 weeks old!

i meant to do a monthly update on my littlest boy but somehow 2 and a half months have already passed.  i can hardly remember what was happening last week much less 2 months ago.  so i am going to try to be better about this...instead of waiting until march for his 3 month update i am just going to start now.  he officially turned 11 weeks old today (wednesday) and i cannot get enough of this baby boy.  he is just the sweetest, most cuddly little boy.  i was really worried about baby #2 because colin was such a great baby that i just knew davis was going to be the crazy one.  if he is, he hasn't made the transition yet.  :)  so at 11 weeks old, here is a quick update on davis james.

-he likes to sleep.  in the evening i usually put him to bed between 9pm - 10pm depending on his last feeding of the night.  he normally will sleep 4 - 5 hours so we are back up between 1am - 2am to eat again.  there have been several nights that he has slept until 3am - 4am...i am hoping to get more of those nights soon!  he naps all throughout the day but is awake for a good 1 - 1.5 hours during and after each feeding.  so if he wakes up at 5am to eat he usually stays awake until about 630am and then sleeps until it's time to eat again.  he has a lot more awake time in the afternoons/evenings.  hopefully he will start sleeping longer periods at night, especially since i will be back at work in less than 1 week.

-my boy also loves to eat.  he eats about 4 oz (i am guessing here since my boobs don't have an ounce indicator) every 3 hours.  the last few days he has been eating about every 2.5 hours instead.  we have started giving him one formula bottle every day.  the pedi suggested doing this because i am going back to work soon. i am planning to pump but i am not sure how successful that will be. she said this will make sure he is used to the formula and it's great because i am putting at least 4 oz of breastmilk in the freezer every night after pumping.  i need to up my pumping times to increase the freezer stash asap but at least this helps.

-he has the sweetest smiles and loves to talk and coo.  he gets really excited when we respond back to his coos and he will just go on talking and talking and talking.  it is the sweetest sound - i didn't realize how much i missed those baby sounds and noises until now.  i want to get it on camera just so i can go back and listen to it one day when my little boys aren't so little anymore.  :)

- i think that is about it...i haven't been so good about doing tummy time every day - i will work on that.  he is getting really strong though and has pretty good head and neck control.  he absolutely loves to be outside just like his big brother.  if he is fussy or having trouble settling down after a feeding or nap we just go on a walk outside and he is instantly happy.  he doesn't cry much at all - if he does it's because he's hungry, wants his diaper changed, or he wants to sit up and look around.  :)  i am trying to teach him to give me kisses - already i know.  we'll see how that works out.  for now everytime i hold him, kiss him, snuggle him, he thinks it is dinner time!

i am amazed how fast the time has flown by - the days pass by so quickly i can never believe another week has gone by.  i know this will change drastically when i am back at work and 10 hours will feel like an eternity every day.  i am also just in complete awe of how much i love this little boy.  like everyone else i wondered how it would be possible to love him as much/in the same way as colin.  everyone told me ' you just do' and everyone was right.  it is inexplainable (is that even a word?) how much i love my two boys - they both bring me indescribable joy and happiness.  there really are not words to describe how i feel.  i thought life was good with one sweet boy to love on and now that love has doubled. i feel like the luckiest momma around.

day of love, 2011

valentine's day came and went this week.  as i have said before, i like the holiday.  yes, we should be telling the people we love how we feel about them throughout the year but it's also fun to have day to celebrate and make sure they know how you feel.  colin did not really understand the holiday but he still had fun with it.  i tell him that i love him about 88 times a day already so this was nothing new, ha! : )

colin woke up to a special breakfast (which his momma got up really extra early for).  he didn't really eat anything but he did like the special treats on the table.  so much for trying to make a special meal, huh?  oh well....it made me happy to do it anyway...silly boy.  everyone else ate the breakfast though (thanks luke, mom, and dad!).
3 of colin's favorites: batman, (imitation) kung fu panda chocolate, and a spiderman card.

chocolate for breakfast!  only one piece and it was valentine's day.

valentine treats for his class.

used leftover christmas packaging from last year and got the teddy bear idea from pinterest.  they turned out super cute!!!

treats for his friends and chocolates for his teachers.  he picked them all out - not sure who he gave the drama queen candy to?  :)

my two little loves.

flowers!

we have been staying at my parents house this week while luke (and our parents) install wood floors in our house.  can you tell luke and my dad went to the same flower place?  :)  mom's flowers are on the left (yellow roses, the same flowers my dad gave her on their first date on valentine's day in 1978!) and mine are the pink ones on the right.  smart men, don't you think?!?  :)  we ended the night with chinese take out and beer - it was a great valentine's day!!!  i should add that i didn't leave luke out - he got a card and some chocolates in his car on the way to work...it is a lot of work having 3 valentines!  :)  i am a lucky girl to have my 3 guys and i hope they all know how much they mean to me.

the countdown has begun....

2 weeks from today i will be back at work....my heart is hurting already.  i have been thinking all along that it will be easier this time around but i am starting to face reality that it might even be a little more difficult.  for today and the next 12 days i am going to soak up as much of this baby love that i can.

a trip to the doctor

i scheduled a joint doctor appointment for my two guys this week - they both needed to see dr. p for well-checks and i thought i would save myself some time and take them together.  i was a little nervous about how many breakdowns would possibly occur but everything was just fine.  colin was absolutely wonderful and made me so proud.  he was perfectly well behaved which made me wonder why he doesn't act like that all of the time but i chose to just enjoy the moment, ha.

aw, brotherly love.
i want to make note of the fact that colin was so excited to go see the pediatrician.  he loves our doctor and luckily has not seen the pediatrician more than once (maybe twice?) in the last year.  he got dressed up and fixed his hair and was such a big boy answering all of her questions.  he really is turning into quite the little boy - not much 'baby' left in him these days.  ok, onto the stats.

cheese!

colin - 3 years old
height: 37.25 inches (35th percentile)
weight: 31 lbs 11oz (49th perecentile)
notes from the pedi: everything is great...he is growing along just as he should be and we were both happy he did not have to get any shots this time!  she did already warn me about the 4-year checkup though....we have plenty of time until then.

davis - 2 months old
height: 22.75 inches (44th percentile)
weight: 11 lbs 10oz (49th percentile)
notes from the pedi: he has moved way up on the growth charts in the last month!  he gained 3 lbs in 4 weeks so i feel like my job as a 'dairy farmer' is going well!  he was cooing and smiling and flirting like crazy with the doctor too.  he got 2 shots and an oral vaccine - poor boy, he was not too happy.

handsome boys.
it was a good visit to the doctor and even though i see them every day and know i have 2 healthy, growing boys, it is nice to hear it from the doctor too.  :)  it is still so surreal to type 'boys'!  i normally take a photo of colin/davis at the pediatrician (i don't know why, just do) but i was a little occupied this time.  i did manage to get a couple pictures on the way out - this was an occasion to remember, for me anyway.  :)

colin - this is taking a very long time.  ha!

kind of a random post

clever title huh?  that is the best i could think of so early in the morning...i will blame it on sleep deprivation and not lack of creativity, ha!  the month of january came and went so quickly this year.  of course we are a little bit busier than last year i suppose.  :)  below are just some random pictures that i took last month - they are sweet pictures that i want to remember. one of the best things about living in southeast texas is that we have had some really amazing weather in january. it hasn't really felt like winter at all actually and that is ok with me.  i like the cold weather for about a week or two and then i am done.  we have been spending lots of time playing outside and soaking up the sunshine.
colin dressed himself for a sunday morning trip to the donut shop.

my sweet davis hanging outside while we worked in the yard.

crazy colin on the neighborhood playground.  yes, his pants are short.  this is a recurrent problem for us - they barely fit in the waist but are too short for his legs.  we will be seeing a lot of white socks in future pictures.

being silly as usual.

quick afternoon nap in momma's bed.  there is something so sweet about a tiny baby in a big old bed!

enjoying the weather outside with cousin elijah.

on one of our many walks....

how cool is he?!?!?  :)

spiderman birthday party!

last weekend was the much anticipated spiderman birthday party for our birthday boy.  it was a great success!  colin loved everything about it and that is what matters most.  we had a great turnout too - my big boy sure does have a lot of family and friends that love him.  i didn't do the best job of documenting the party this year but we had a great time! the pinata was a huge hit and colin was obsessed with spiderman birthday cake.  like i said, we all had a great time celebrating this sweet boy's birthday...i am already looking forward to next year's party!
