Mother's Day

My boys know exactly how to make me happy on Mother's Day.  They tried to do a secret project in the garage for me but Luke needed help cleaning Davis up, can you tell?  :)  Colin doesn't look very happy but only because he wanted to talk about Captain America, not take a picture.  And, ignore the trash bag in the picture...at least it was on its way out to the garage.

Luke made huevos rancheros for breakfast and I am a lucky lady because he knows his way around the kitchen.  We laid around the house watching movies and playing most of the day and then went over to my parents house for dinner and more playtime.

And before I forget, I also got to participate in Muffins with Mom at Colin's (& Davis') school this year.  It was the sweetest....all of the kids sang 3 songs about mother's day and then we got to eat a yummy brunch all together.  I didn't get a picture of me and they boys at the event but I did get one of Colin when they were singing.  I can't believe Davis will be up there in a couple years too...seems impossible but I know it will happen quicker than I think.  :)

Date Night with My Boy!

The Saturday before Mother's Day was a very important day at the Horton house.  Well, at least for me it was a very important day - that evening Colin and I went on our first 'date'!  This might sound weird to some but I can't think of what else to call it.  Anytime we get a babysitter it's always because mommy and daddy are going on a date to spend time together so when I told Colin that he was going on a date with mommy he was over the moon excited (so was I)!

Our Chick-fil-A hosted a Mother Son Date Knight...I went online and got the last reservation (how cute is that?).  We made sure to take a picture before we left...I know that I am a huge dork but I didn't want to forget this important event.
I know I am bias but seriously, how handsome is this kid?  I told him that when you go on a date it is important to look nice so we picked out a special outfit for him to wear.  Then he asked Daddy to fix his 'nice hair'.  :)

When we arrived they escorted us to our special table. : ) We had a waiter come take our order (he offered us a menu but we didn't need one, ha!).

They even had a little conversation starter at the mom's place setting talking about knights and bravery, etc. We talked about superheroes instead. :) Guess who started that conversation?

He was the sweetest boy and I loved getting to spend some time alone with him. The whole thing lasted about 45 minutes I think which was just long enough to keep his attention.

Of course the ice cream bar at the end of the meal didn't hurt either.  He wanted every topping available on his ice cream.  He is a smart kid.  After we paid for our dinner (remember it was waiter service this night!) they brought over a sword for me to give Colin and they gave him a rose to give to Momma.  We were both pretty happy with our party favors, ha.

My goal is to make this a regular thing for the two of us (and eventually for Davis too).  I am already thinking of other ideas for our date nights in the future!  I love my boy to infinity and beyond (and I am pretty sure he feels the same way too.).  :)

a baby fills a place in your heart that you never knew was empty.

The title of this post is a quote I saw online awhile back.  I think about it often, especially when i am thinking about my sweet baby Davis.  He is definitely the best surprise of my life and I cannot believe that he is already 5 months old...soon to be 6 months!  He is still just the sweetest, happiest baby boy.  He has the best laugh and his most favorite person in the world (besides mommy and daddy of course) is his big brother.  Anytime Colin walks in the room this little boy just lights up.
Davis trying so hard to sit next to big brother before bedtime.

My baby boy on his 5 month birthday, 5-7-12
He is a big fan of sitting in the bumbo.  :)

He still loves taking a bath...as soon as he hears the bath water start running he starts kicking his legs and flapping his arms and smiling and talking.  :)

He is teething and loves the baby mum-mums!

This is his new favorite activity...isn't he the cutest?!?!

Vegetables, A Vow Renewal, A Baptism, and A Birthday Party = How We Celebrate Cinco de Mayo

Is that a crazy blog title or what?  Well, that is exactly what we did over the Cinco de Mayo weekend.  One month after we planted our vegetable garden we picked the first cucumbers and tomatoes!  We were all pretty excited and let me tell you, they were tasty.  Since then we've gotten a lot more tomatoes and a few more cucumbers.  I will have to do another post with pictures of the garden now -- it is huge and taking over our backyard (well, it is taking over the back corner of our yard anyway).

We spent the weekend with the Horton family to celebrate 3 very special events.  First, my sister in law and brother in law renewed their vows...how sweet is that?  They had just celebrated their 10 year wedding anniversary and I told Luke we need to start planning our vow renewal now.  Ha, just joking...kind of.  I loved witnessing this milestone in their lives and we were so happy to be there to celebrate with them!

That same afternoon our youngest niece Jillian was baptized by Daddy Jay.  She is the sweetest little girl and when she and Colin are together they are double trouble for sure.  She is a blessing to our family and I can't wait to see what God has in store for her.

The rest of that same weekend was spent celebrating Honey's birthday (Luke's mom).  We had the best time playing outside and just hanging out all together.  The cousins were exhausted at the end of the day.

I can't go without posting a picture of all the yummy food that Sharon and Angie made for the vow renewal...it was so good!  We pretty much spent the entire day eating between the vow renewal and Honey's birthday dinner (we had bbq ribs which I sadly did not get a picture of).  Fun times!

A Surprise for Momma

Last weekend Luke surprised me with a getaway to Galveston.  He had planned the entire thing and even got my parents to watch our sweet boys while we were gone.  I had no idea he was up to anything until Saturday - he was acting a little funny and running around the house like crazy.  :)  When I saw my parents pull up in the driveway I knew there was something sneaky going on.  It was so sweet and romantic of him and it was a perfect 24 hours away - just the two of us!

We stayed at The Tremont in Galveston and I loved the hotel and our room!  Of course I did not take hardly any pictures.  We had dinner at Rudy and Paco's (yum!!!) and then went back to our hotel to the rooftop bar (good drinks and beautiful!).

On Sunday we went to breakfast at Mosquito Cafe and then headed over to the Hotel Galvez for some spa time.  My sweet husband had arranged for us to have a couples massage and it was amazing.  We drank our lavender champagne, put on our robes, chilled in the relaxation room, then got our massages, more champagne and relaxing and them ended with a trip to the sauna and shower.  In case I didn't say before, it was amazing.  We spent the rest of the afternoon laying by the pool with our adult drinks and books.  I am one lucky girl to have such a thoughtful husband (and wonderful parents to watch my boys!).  I felt so loved and spoiled and just had the best time.  We both agreed we need to get away like that more often - at least more than once every couple of years.  :)

April Catch Up

So I know it is already May but I haven't posted about a lot of stuff that happened in April. How is it that the days/weeks/months seem to be flying by?  This is going to be a very random post, but here goes...

we made peanut butter cookies during davis' naptime one afternoon.  mine are on top and colin's special circle cookies are on bottom.  he rolled all of them by himself and he was so proud.

little brother had his first taste of rice cereal.  he is a big fan.

we celebrated grammie's birthday with a special lunch.  davis decided he was starving to death when i got the camera out.  :)

davis helped daddy with some important spreadsheet work on the computer.

little brother went to the doctor for a crazy rash that popped up all over his little body.   it turns out that was his body's reaction to a slight fever.  yuck.  poor little boy.

we spent a lot of time at the 'blue playground'.

we had some yummy frozen yogurt!

davis went back to the pedi for his 4 month checkup.  he weighed 15 lbs and was 25 inches long and is in the 50th percentil for both height and weight.  hard to remember he was so teeny tiny when he was born.  he's come a long way from his birthweight of 6lbs 10oz.  :)

we had sno-cones at the park and played with colin's buzz lightyear kite.

colin rode his bike to the playground as many times as he could...always with the helmet!

sweet brother time in their pj's...love them.

davis got a new toy (thanks to aunt kim!) on loan and he loves it!

and out of nowhere he decided to start sucking his thumb.  ignore the christmas bib he is wearing, ha!  does my boy have some legs or what?!?  :)
we played with the timer on the camera one afternoon too.  colin needed a picture of us for school and we didn't have any...i wasn't too successful but we still had fun.  :)
