Oregon, Part 3 - Brunch, Goonies, and Seals!

The day after the wedding the entire Buckert clan was going to meet up in Astoria, Oregon (about 20 minutes from where we were staying) for brunch.  After a bit of googling, we discovered Astoria was home to the filming of the Goonies movie....so Luke, Colin, and I left early to sight-see before we met everyone for brunch.  I wish I would have gotten some pictures of actual Astoria itself - it's so pretty (as was every place we saw in Oregon) and is such a cute town.  Once we got to Astoria, specifically the Visitors Center, we discovered there were a ton (seriously) of movies filmed here.  We only went to 2 places...but they were the coolest, of course.
Colin slept thru the first part of our self-guided tour.

I was so super excited about finding this school. This is where they filmed the movie "Kindergarten Cop"!
That's me in the middle. Seriously, so excited and such a dork, I know.

Next was the main attraction and Luke's favorite - the house where they filmed The Goonies. They filmed all around Astoria and other areas of Portland but this house is most iconic.  It's weird because someone bought the house and they live there but they let people walk up the hill to take pictures - pretty nice of them!

In front of the Goonies house.  We woke Colin from his nap and made him take a photo with us.  We figure he will appreciate it one day!

The view from the front yard.  That bridge in the picture leads to Washington.

Next up was our trip to the Astoria Column.  I forget the significance of the place now, but it was really neat.  It was also really exhausting and scary walking up that many narrow, spiral staircases but it was fun!
Colin and me in front of the column.  Is it just me or does he look like such a big kid in this photo?

Colin & Luke at the top of the column...eyes closed of course.

Another view from the top.

Me & Colin at the top...I am starting to think he doesn't like the camera.

Family picture back down on the ground.

Colin taking a rest. Look at the amazingly beautiful scenery.

The Buckert Family after yummy brunch (minus Doug, Kim, & Uncle Bill)

After brunch with the family we took a couple more detours - one to the farmers market (Luke has those pics somewhere) and one to see the seals.  It was so cool to see them all there and Colin talked to them the entire time....of course I am sure they understood everything he said.

My loves...aren't they the best ever?

Then it was time to head back to our temporary home in Seaside.

Once we got back to our house we still had the whole afternoon to do something and the sun was finally peeking out from behind the clouds!!!  We lazed around in the backyard for awhile and enjoyed the weather.

Colin learning to play golf.

We decided to venture down to the beach with the weather being so nice.
Let's just say we did not stay at the beach very long.  As fast as the sun came out, it went away and it was FREEZING!  I don't know how people were swimming in ocean.  But we attempted and still had fun walking down to the beach - it was beautiful, even with the cold and clouds.

The next day before we left I attempted to get some photos of our rental house and the shops around us, so here you go.
Our home for a week - we loved, loved, loved this house!!!

Another shot of the house. Thanks to my parents for getting this place for all of us!

Yumm!!!  Warm, absurdly delicious scones every morning and yummy ice cream in the afternoons!

Pacific Way had an amazing bakery too - really good coffee (espresso anyone?) and pastries.  I think we had breakfast from here almost every day!

They had Tsunami Evacuation Route signs everywhere.  Too funny - and some of the even had a person running from the tsunami...too bad I couldn't find one of those to take a picture of.

Thanks for looking at the pictures - if you made it through all of them.  There are a million I didn't post and a million more from Luke's camera I haven't even seen yet. This was the best vacation we have had in a very long time and it made it even better that we got to spend the time with family and celebrate w/Aubrey and Andy. We can't wait to go back to Oregon - except next time I will pack like it's the dead of winter. :)
